Dr. Sean Sharp
Assistant Research Scientist
Dr. Sean Sharp is an Assistant Research Scientist at the University of Maryland. During his postdoc, he was mentored by Drs. Kate Tully and Margaret Palmer. He is interested in the interaction of community dynamics and biogeochemistry of wetlands and coastal ecosystems. His work spans field experiments, laboratory analysis, and simulation models, from the steamy mangroves of South Florida to the icy marshes of Lake Superior, and is now happy to be in the Mid-Atlantic. Broadly, he seeks to leverage a mechanistic understanding of ecosystem functioning to quantify their resilience to global change and inform future management. He previously tested the resilience of southeastern US salt marshes to disturbance, modeled nutrient cycling in coastal wetlands of the Great Lakes, and is currently studying the transport and transformation of carbon in wetland and agricultural systems of the Delmarva Peninsula.
