Vivian Owens
Undergraduate intern (Spring 2021)
Vivian Owens is a Chinese and Environmental Science and Technology double major with a concentration in Soil and Watershed Science. While Vivian has held an interest for environmental sustainability since high school, her passion for soil began after taking the into to soils class at UMD. She then joined the UMD Soil Quality lab where she is still currently working as an undergraduate research assistant. She has contributed to research related to nitrogen cycling, organic crop transition, and water runoff as they impact soil quality and health on agricultural land. As a native Baltimorean, she hopes to research soil quality on urban farms in the inner city. Vivian enjoys hiking in northern Maryland, dog sitting for her family members, and running on the trails that go throughout College Park. She is currently training for her next half marathon and plans to run a full marathon one day. She looks forward to learning more about the effects of saltwater intrusion on agricultural lands with the Agroecology lab this semester.
