Mackenzie Hellmuth
Undergraduate Fall Intern (2023)
Mackenzie Hellmuth is a transfer student majoring in Environmental Science and Technology with a concentration in Natural Resource Management at the University of Maryland. She first began her degree at Sierra College in California where she obtained an associate's degree in Natural Sciences and another in Environmental Sustainability and Sciences.
She is involved with a project at UMD to grow a permaculture garden with edible plants on campus to promote the better use of potential green spaces and gain experience in combating food insecurity in urban areas.
Mackenzie developed a love for nature from a young age due to frequent family trips to national parks and outdoor activities such as rock hounding, hiking, and camping. That love persists to this day and has fueled her desire to find sustainable ways to live alongside natural ecosystems.
